Microsoft Windows Essential Business Server 2008 will be discontinued
Microsoft announced on March 5 that Windows Essential Business Server 2008 will be discontinued on June 30,2010. Microsoft Windows Essential Business Server 2008 was targeted at midsized businesses.

Due to the number of options available from Microsoft for midsized businesses there has been sluggish demand for EBS2008.

You are not left with two options:
  1. SBS2008 which will work for organizations with less than 75 users.
  2. Purchase full license product of Windows Server 2008.

Microsoft Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 to be released on May 12, 2010
Microsoft announced on March 4, 2010 that they will be releasing the entire Microsoft Office 2010 Suite to the general public on May 12, 2010. This includes:
  • Word 2010
  • Excel 2010
  • PowerPoint 2010
  • Access 2010
  • Visio 2010
  • Project 2010
  • SharePoint 2010

Presumably this includes SharePoint Foundation Services and SharePoint Server 2010 but the announcement was unclear on this point.

Find out more by attending the Worldwide Launch Event (http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/businessproductivity/proof/pages/2010-launch-events.aspx).

Anyone that purchases Office 2007 between now and September is eligible for a free upgrade to Office 2010 under the Office 2010 Technology Guarantee Program.

The Release to Manufacturing (RTM) and publishing for MSDN subscribers should happen in April.

How do I disable exporting records from Microsoft Dynamics CRM?

Under Business Management Tab in any Security Role from the Administration Area in the Settings Section there is an option that says “Export to Excel”, make sure none selected (a white circle with a red border, see legend).

What does this do? This will remove the Excel icon from all of the toolbars on every view in Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

Why would I need to audit? You may want to make it more difficult for certain people to obtain a copy of the proprietary information within Microsoft Dynamics CRM. While this only makes it more difficult it will not prevent savvy users from working around this.

Can I audit when the export feature is used and by whom? Short answer, yes. This involves enabling logging in Internet Information Services (IIS). Sonoma Partners has a great article about how to technically do this. Auditing would only work on the on Premise version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
